I'll see if we can get this done to help save the world from the rest of the world that doesn't even care to be saved if it can give them an excuse to waste time and blame computers.Ĭopy of a DM conversation because I think it's important in interface design to be respectful that not everyone knows or cares for anything that isn't immediately obvious compared to their differences and alternative views of the world: That's why I need this, as getting down from 3 clicks to one click for these people would be a mini-miracle. I literally just got a meeting request for training on how to do screensharing with Jitsi. I'm literally sending them a link to a Jitsi meeting, they don't need to install anything, and just need to make 3 clicks, but even that is too much for people that expect everything to do with computers to come with a person sat next to them to show them in baby steps. Just getting to see their screen is the biggest battle, once I have that I can generally help. It might not be understood by anyone here, well because you are here - but there are so many more people in the world that don't know how to use a computer in almost any way than those that do - and more often with my new client I am getting those people to then have to explain things to. To prequalify any answer from anyone else, if it contains the sentiment "why don't you just.", then you've already missed the point.Īnyone who doesn't see the need for this really hasn't ever had to do technical support for people that need every single computer click explained to them, without seeing what they are seeing or doing or describing or mis-describing as is often the case. Very smart people don't see the problem with 5 clicks, the rest of us don't see why if something is needed frequently enough it's not just one click. The difference between very smart people, and people that just get things done, is about 5 clicks. No, that's the video, you can turn that off again please, I just need to see what you can see.Īnd the same merry charade happens almost every day in my trying to help world. Can you see the microphone mute button, can you click that too?.Oh you have 2 screens, can you choose the other one please. Can you see the one third in that looks like a screen with an arrow on it?.Agreed - just that this a lot faster for a specific need.ĩ9% of the time I'm doing support with a speakerphone, and just use any other web meeting software just for the screensharing and nothing else:
